We know very well that dark green vegetables are excellent for our health. Green vegetables are very potent source of minerals and nutrients. If we include green vegetables in our daily diet then surely we can reduce the chances of developing many diseases. It is true that our body need dark green vegetables because nutrients in these green vegetables help our body to function properly.

Dark green leafy vegetables are known as super foods. This is because they are rich with many nutrients. Yet we tend to underestimate the value or importance of dark green vegetables. Most of us do not have enough of these green vegetables in our regular diet. Leafy green vegetables are excellent source of Vitamin A, B, C, E and K. Adding to these they are rich with Folate and Fiber as well. We can also have good amount of calcium, magnesium, iron and potassium from them. Last but not the least it should be noted that green vegetables are great source of antioxidants and phytonutrients.

i. Talking about phytonutrients and antioxidants- these two are very good for our immune system. They promote good immunity. Also, calcium, magnesium, iron and other important Vitamins (Vitamin C plays an important role to keep immune system healthy) are very good for immune health. Dark green vegetables are full of these healthy compounds and therefore, we should add more dark green vegetables and other green vegetables to our regular diet. This is why dark green vegetables especially leafy green vegetables are useful in reducing the chance of developing cancer and cardiovascular or heart disease.

iv. Carotenoids, flavonoids that are found in green vegetables are very helpful of reducing the risk of cancer especially stomach cancer. Antioxidants in green vegetables are also helpful in this context. So, green vegetables are full of cancer protective properties.

v. Nutrients of green vegetables make them highly valuable for the people who are suffering from Type II diabetes and with any bone related problem. Green leafy vegetables contain high amount of magnesium and also low in glycemic index, and thus they help to reduce the risk of diabetes. Vitamin K that can be found in green vegetables is very good for the bone health.
