The Amazing Health Benefits of Abm Mushrooms

Ranked #8 in Food & Nutrition
For years, Agaricus Blazel Murill (ABM) mushrooms have been known as “the king of mushroom” for its medicinal properties and abundant nutrients which are beneficial to human health. Inhabitants who live in the Atlantic Rainforest region in southeastern Brazil, to whom ABM mushrooms as part of their regular diet has observed to have unusually low incidence of chronic illnesses, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and heart disease.

Agaricus Blazel Murill (ABM) mushrooms were first discovered by Takatoshi Furumoto in Piedade, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. His research revealed that the unusually low incidence of cancer and geriatric diseases found among the inhabitants of that region was linked to their frequent consumption of ABM mushrooms. Thereafter, more researches have been done to unveil the remarkable properties of ABM mushrooms.

Not long after that, researchers realized that the ABM mushrooms are exceptionally rich in nutrients that are beneficial to human health. The mushrooms contain the highest percentage of iron content ever found in any plant-based foods. Also, ABM mushrooms are discovered to be an ideal source of iron that can be easily assimilated by the human body.

ABM Mushrooms Are a Rich Source of Iron

Actually, animal products are neither the only nor the best choice for iron intake. Hence, drinking dairy products such as milk and eating more meat may not be a good way to supplement iron for the body requirement. Even though animal products are extremely higher in iron and calcium, they may not be the answer to the lack of iron and calcium. The reason is that they’re loaded with higher cholesterol. They’re not fat-free like ABM mushrooms. Take 100 grams of pork liver for an example, it may contain as much as three times more iron but a staggering 368mg more cholesterol than plant sources of iron!

The American Heart Association has recommended us to keep our daily cholesterol level below 300mg. According to the medical experts, higher cholesterol level may be the main culprit of chronic inflammation, clogged arteries, which will ultimately lead us to heart and cardiovascular disease.

Heme iron is present in animal products like pig’s blood and pork liver while that in plants is known as non-heme iron. Certainly, animal products contain more iron than plants. Nevertheless, high iron deposit in animal sources does not mean they are the best choice for iron intake. While containing high percentage of iron content, they do have awfully higher cholesterol level which is known to be the risk factor for cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes and heart disease. The risks to human health far outweigh its benefits.

Why is iron from plant sources like ABM mushrooms are better than animal sources? The best answer lies in the human body’s ability to absorb the iron in the food. Research reveals that iron absorbed by the body from eating lesser amounts of plant foods is more than eating lots of animal foods. The real crux again lies in the human body to regulate the amount of non-heme iron from plant sources it absorbs more slowly and efficiently and the body will only store what it needs to maintain healthy levels. On the other hand, heme iron from animal products is absorbed more rapidly and continue to be absorbed regardless of whether the body needs it or not.

From the above explanation, we are more likely to overdose on iron from eating animal products, in addition to iron additives or supplements. It has been documented that excessive intake of iron may result in iron toxicity, and may also lead to possible effects of abdominal stress, stomach upset, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, dark colored feces, and/ or constipation. Additionally, overdose of iron causes oxidative stress, causing the increase of free radicals and eventually leads to genetic mutations, and hence increasing the risk factors of heart disease, cancer and liver failure.

Since plants have already done lots of processing when they take up minerals from the ground, digest and make them into ionic form, the toxicity by accumulation does not occur. In addition to that, plant sources of iron can be easily assimilated by human body, and therefore, iron intake from ABM mushroom is safer.

ABM Mushrooms Enhance the Absorption of Calcium

As ABM mushrooms contain ergosterol, which converts into vitamin D2, and this vitamin helps enhance the absorption and efficient use of calcium in the body. In this process, vitamin D2 and ergosterol combine to promote strengthen bones while helping prevent a silent disease called osteoporosis.

Other ABM Mushroom’s Myriad Benefits

ABM mushrooms own its unique lovely texture and rich almond flavor which make it the best culinary delight for both younger and old generations. Like other plant foods, ABM mushrooms contain abundance of nutrients, trace elements, besides having no cholesterol or fat-free. They cause no side effects and can always be substituted by synthetic supplements.

In particular, ABM mushrooms, like soy and wakame, are packed with rich sources of iron. They are also loaded with higher content of protein, vitamins B1, B2 and other essential elements such as sodium, calcium, phosphorus and potassium needed by human body for an optimum health.

Each 100 grams of ABM mushrooms for example, contain 9.65mg of iron- the highest percentage of iron ever found in plant foods. ABM mushrooms are definitely, a perfect combination of nutrients that provide human body with a wholesome source of iron, trace elements and other minerals with zero cholesterol and no side effects.

I agree with Judy. Much valuable interesting information here. Never stop writing or we'll never stay as well informed.

excellent as always

These mushrooms sound really health especially for women.

Amazing article about an amazing fungus (technically not a plant though) This is certainly cutting edge info that needs to get out there. Mushrooms were recently falsely considered to have no nutritional value. Now, we are finding out that they also have incredible medicinal properties. Remember, there are tens of thousands of species, and no mushrooms are created equal. Great job on this Chan!

I hate mushrooms but my husband really likes them. Didn't know about the good health benefits though. Very good information.
